Term Definition
Banish

To send away. In a spiritual context, a ritual or technique used to send away unwanted entities or energies. Usually meant to be permanent.

Banshee

Irish mythology: a female spirit According to legend, a banshee wails around a house if someone in the house is about to die. The wail of the banshee is an omen of death, a message from the Otherworld.

Beithe

The first letter of the Ogham tree alphabet, representing the letter B and meaning birch.

Berkana

The 18th rune of the Elder Futhark, representing the letter b.

Beta State

When the brain is functioning in the beta state (greater than 12 Hz). Characterized by mental alertness, wide awake, involved in it's surroundings, aware and responsive to stimuli.

Beta Waves

The frequency range of brain activity above 12 Hz. Beta waves indicate alert, wide awake thinking.

Bhuddism

A religion, originated in India by Gautama Buddha, who lived in parts of what is now Nepal and northeast India circa the fifth century BCE., that emphasizes physical and spiritual discipline as a means of liberation from the physical world. The goal for the Buddhist is to attain nirvana, a state of complete peace in which one is free from the distractions of desire and self-consciousness.

Existence or the ability to physically exist simultaneously in two places.

Bio-PK

The use of psychokinetic influence (pk) on living systems, of particular interest in psionic or distant healing.

Biofeedback

A training technique that enables a person to gain some element of voluntary control over autonomic body functions. It is based on the principle that a desired response is learned when received information indicates that a specific thought or action has produced the desired response. Bkakti Yoga

(Hindu) Achieving union with the Divine through extreme devotion. One of the four major yogic paths.Bhakti methods include repetitive singing of songs or listening to stories dedicated to the Divine, worship, and surrender of the self, each with the goal of increasing awareness of the Divine until union is achieved.

Black Magic

Traditionally known to be magic used with the intent to harm oneself or another. Frequently used to refer to the use of negative or darker energies in nature, metaphysical realms or human emotion to achieve the desired outcome. One example would be to hasten natural decay (death) to speed up the cycle of renewal, or as an act of mercy to an ailing creature.

Block

Anything that prevents an activity from occurring or being able to be performed. Blocks may be mental, physical, or metaphysically constructed.

Bodhisatva

In Buddhism, the title of a person so spiritually evolved that he or she no longer needs to incarnate but who chooses to refain from entering nirvana to return to this world of suffering in order to teach others.

Book of Shadows

Wiccan term for a book of rituals and teachings. Sometimes applied to a journal of magical activity.

Bounce

Slang: method used by experienced practitioners to focus awareness on another plane, by an extremely swift drop into the alpha state and 'bouncing' outward (redirecting focus)to the desired metaphysical location. Practioner may/may not employ split focus.

Broadcast

The usually unintentional, and less than subtle emitting of thoughts and emotions that can be easily (sometimes uncomfortably) sensed by others; directed outward in no particular direction.

Bruja

Spanish for “Witch,” it is often used in Mexico to describe a woman who uses folk magic.

Brujo

Spanish for “wizard,” it is often used in Mexico to describe people who use folk magic.

Brush

Slang: To briefly make psi contact, while performing a scan, moving on when its determined the contact was not the intended target.

Bubble Shield

Simple model of psi shielding, created by making a psi construct 'bubble' to encompass the individual, to reduce the level of psi input or sensitivity, or conversely reduce the volume of psi output by an individual. Programming is variable, but usually simple.
