Cognitive Bias - an overview

Oh, the wonderful things we bump into reading a magazine. Smiling I was reading along, followed a link, and hit the jackpot. We often chat a bit about understanding skeptics, believers and all those who reside somewhere in the middle. The discussion inevitably leads to understanding the psychology of the workings of the human mind. We all want answers, but few have the background, the time, or the inclination to put in months of study to gather up all the studies and draw conclusions.

In reading the linked article, I found a masterful essay. It looks long at first, but in reality is a very concise overview of the ‘why’ people take the stances they do. The link is to part three of a series, and covers quite well cognitive biases, strengths and weaknesses. Peak Oil is a concept residing in precisely the same position as psionics in society today. We often use analogy to explain our concepts. The author has taken years of study and compiled it in easy to read, very illustrative material. This should not be missed! If ‘psionics’ were exchanged for ‘peak oil’ in this, I’d swear this article was written by Dr. Radin or one of his peers.

The first two parts are the scientific information and analasys. Read them if you are interested. Part three is the main focus for our purposes.

(Note: when trying to access parts one and two, in the article ”In the first two parts of this series..” the word first and two, are two separate links)

just read it then. and its an important thing to keep in mind.
i see it alot in terms of psi (and especially magick, i know some here like magick, but i do see it amongst magick users).

anyway. 'the bottom line' has some very good points, and is a nice summary. but it is better reading the whole thing

if only everyone on the internet knew where their belief systems come from, and what effects them.

it certainly seems to me that most people want to shut down talking about psi theories because it dosent fit in with how they think it works, rather then the given problem, that things rarely ever are productive, because of the limited resarch capacity of most psions. even though both are a problem when talking about theories.

on a concrete road to recovery
cause i'm knocking over every cone
infront of me.

blog again :my blog <- last update 07 dec. <- thoughts on RV/scanning
