Hello,
I had watched a video on YouTube earlier of an African Shaman levitating himself in front of a German film crew. Is this sort of thing hard to do? How would you go about doing this? Has anyone ever experienced this before? The video just kind of caught my attention and made me say "Wow." Just wanted to share.

Hi,
I've seen that one.
That's a serious one. I've heard two opposites "It's simple, it happens each time I meditate" and "Levitation is considered a really advanced skill and can only be learned when ". I've heard of random people just attempting it and succeeding on their first try.
Although I've been interested in levitation for years, I haven't achieved it yet (at least, not with a physical body). The closest I've gotten is a feeling of weightlessness, walking on snow for about a minute (and falling in over knees again), reducing the mass of an USB stick by a few grams.
Here are a few links, if you're interested:

http://www.naruse-yoga.com/le... (a really interesting method, in my opinion)

http://skyboom1.tripod.com/index... (here levitation aka laghima is considered one of the highest siddhis)
That Wingmakers page needs some studying of yoga first. Otherwise it may look a bit pollocks.
You could also watch Chris Angel's levitation videos for inspiration / motivation.
Have a fun journey! ;)
Its certainly not an easy one
The levitation technique is one of the most difficult to master
If anyone has more videos of this kind, then please post the links
Naw .. I wouldn't like to think it's that difficult ;). I've heard of plenty of cases where "random" people have watched Chris Angel's levitation videos and suddenly just levitated. Though, that's still far from fully mastering it.
In case there are some people on this forum, who can read Japanese, you might be interested in Naruse Masaharu's book on levitation:

I've also found the following picture-diary quite inspiring:

She jumps into air and takes pictures regularly.
As a sidenote, Shirak succeeded in becoming weightless a couple of days ago.

Levitation is probably the ability that I'm most skeptical about. I haven't heard of or met anyone in particular who could demonstrate a legitimate levitation. I wouldn't recommend the Criss Angel levitation videos because he's an illusionist and cannot TRULY levitate. I'm not trying to put you down, but you can't be sure that the Shaman levitation was legit either. :/ Though if someone has a reasonable explanation for how levitation could be physically possible, I'd be happy to read it. I'm here to learn, too.
I agree with you bro
The criss angel videos are not real as he is just an illusionist
But I certainly know that levitation is possible
Even physics supports this phenomenon
This page gives some scientific information about levitation
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Levitation
For me, it doesn't matter if he's an illusionist or not.
I even watch anime for inspiration :D.
It doesn't matter if others have done it before us or not, we're gonna do it anyway.
Though, if we believe that others (Goku, Chris Angel, Naruse Masaharu, Superman) are doing it, we can use it for motivating ourselves, seriously boosting our own progress. It doesn't even matter if the superheros are real or imagined, we can still trick our mind into doing it much like "they did".
For me, the borders between dreams and reality seem to be disappearing. Reality now sometimes feels really dream-like, like a collective illusion of sorts. In this sense, everyone who manipulates reality may call themselves illusionists or psions or even witches. The latter ones might be chased for being involved in witchcraft. An illusionist, however, has the right to hide their tricks without being accused of anything funny. Who knows what kind of tricks they actually use :)..
Well, I know that people have found ways to levitate objects by scientific means. I've even seen it demonstrated at school before. It's the psychic levitation that I find hard to believe. How could a person lift their hundred-something-pound self off of the ground using only their mind and concentration? It seems too much like a defiance of gravity. I don't really know why I'm so doubtful about levitatioin compared to abilities like telepathy or psiballs. It's just something about the idea of floating in the air...
@Bubblegum
You forget that gravity is still a great mystery, as humans have only uncovered less than 1% of the mysteries of the universe. What if gravity is really just magnetism? In that respect, levitation could easily be accomplished with a clear mind and energy manipulation. What you would theoretically do is clear your mind (of course), and make your own magnetic field, reverse from the earths natural poles so that you may "levitate" This has been physically proven by many novelty items and toys, simple magnetics. To achieve a magnetic field you need three things: Movement (energy flowing), Conductor (Your Self), Magnetic Field (Earth). I have yet to try this myself, I am just getting into all of this stuff, and still really just thinking it over before attempting. Criss Angel, dont get me started, most of his show is people praying that he lives, as if he is really risking his life lol. Just my two sense ;)
Nowadays gravitation, magnetism, inter nuclear force etc are all considered different
But long ago Einstien stated that all of these forces are only one force
He said that there are no types of forces but just one universal force
Of course he wasnt able to prove it but it wasnt disproved either
The scientists of that time refused this explaination as this seemed untrue
Also all the scientific work had to be changed if it was accepted
So the theory was rejected
But in my opinion I agree with Einstien's theory
And thus levitation is proved
Acoording to the above theory of course
This should really be in the psychokinesis section but whatever. To answer this question, I have copied and pasted from my former post in the the thread "Psychokinesis; where you are and where you want to be":
I remember a scene from Star Wars in which Luke is trying to lift his spaceship out of the swamp; It went something like this:
Luke - "I can't do it Master. This is much different from lifting a couple or rocks."
Yoda - "No! No different! Only different in your mind."
Luke - "Okay Master, I'll try."
Yoda - "No! Do or do not; there is no try."
Luke tries and the ship twitches a little, then falls over (Much like some of us and our psi wheels :) )
Luke - "You ask the impossible!"
Yoda sighs, then uses the Force to draw the ship out of the water and onto dry land. Luke is spellbound.
Luke - "I don't believe it!"
Yoday - "That, is why you fail."
Although Yoda is a fictional character I still find the advice he gives to be amazing. Consider this: Gravity is one of the weakest forces on Earth; simply picking up a stick or attracting a piece of paper with static electricity effectively overrides the gravitational force of the entire planet. Taking this into account, generating enough psychic power to overcome such a small force should be easy, but because most of us have never seen an object fly of its owner's volition, our mind subconsciously denies this possibility. In some cases, it may take years to retrain our mind to accept levitation into its reality, yet we should never limit ourselves because the very act of expecting something to take years ensures that it will take years. I much prefer to let go of expectations and allow my own abilities to surprise me; it is the faster and healthier path. It could happen this instant; it could happen in a million years. But when you are ready for it, it will happen.
If it is true that psychokinesis is more like an understanding than a muscle, it should be possible to retrain ourselves to move almost anything, for the knowledge is already within us. This may seem like a lofty goal, but think: the practice of magic today has been constrained mostly to small communities like ours, who study magical arts independently and with less than our full time and devotion. What if one day psionic institutions become commonplace, allowing for teachers with vast life experience to pass on their knowledge to students? What if one day psionic textbooks become widespread, immortalizing the understandings of previous generations? What then? Where is the limit?
