Children and Psychic Abilities:
A Letter to Parents
As the father of two boys, I understand and can relate to the absolute need to protect our children from anything that may harm them or lead them into material and actions that are either immoral or illegal. Too often in this day and age we hear news stories regarding children that have gone astray or delved into things better left unmentioned and the interviews that follow almost always have the child’s parents saying things like, “We had no idea our child was doing those types of things.” For even being astute enough to know what your child is associated with or interested in, whether through them being openly honest with you or by more covert means on your part, I applaud you for taking the time to read this note and thereby attempting to comprehend where your child’s interest are.
PsionicsOnline is a publically open community and is based around the premise of psionics or psi (pronounced ‘sigh’). Psionics is a loosely structured belief in parts of the paranormal. Yes the paranormal includes things beyond our five physical senses and has yet to be proven to exist by science; however your child holds a belief that some, if not all aspects may be somewhat truthful. Now, as soon as I mention the paranormal, most parents run in a panic that their child is worshipping some demon and performing ceremonies or rituals that involve sacrificing chickens. Please, if this is you, calm down.
Your child is interested in a specific aspect of the unknown called psionics. This is an extremely important distinction to make. Psionics, though it deals with things beyond the physical world, does not involve anything demonic or even negative in nature. To put it bluntly, psionics shuns any overly spiritual aspect quite wholeheartedly. Psionics and the PsionicsOnline Community especially discourage and simply do not allow behavior or even discussion regarding anything that we as parents might consider to be harmful or demonic in nature. In actual fact, psionics is geared towards your child learning to understand who they are and how they fit into the world around them. On top of this self discovery, psionics strives to encourage increased self-esteem, while at the same time the PsionicsOnline Community greatly discourages bullying in any form. This all comes together to create a safe and nurturing environment for your child to learn in.
How does learning about scientifically unproven phenomena in the form of psionics help your child? In order to succeed in psionics your child needs to read and comprehend articles and lessons explaining abilities and techniques. During this learning phase, your child may find a need to ask pointed questions in the discussion forums, or text chat. From there your child must practice the techniques and be diligent enough to continue to learn and grow. To be quite honest, if your child is in this for the coolness factor, their interest will dissipate rather quickly once they realize the amount of work that is necessary with psionics. But if your child seems to be in it for the long haul, to learn and understand aspects of psionics that will ultimately help them in their life, then you should be proud of their determination and ability to focus.
Those religious parents amongst us may be wondering what their religion says regarding psionics. My experience in psi spans several decades and throughout that time I’ve spoken to representatives from many of the world’s religions. Only in a select few of the more orthodox sects did I ever run into issues of mixing psionics with their religion. If you’re worried about what exactly is and is not okay within the confines of your religion, I encourage you to speak with your religious leader. You will most likely need to educate yourself enough to stress the difference between psionics and popularized paranormal to them in order to receive a well formed answer. In most cases people have been very surprised how much of psionics their religion actually accepts and even embraces.
To round out this note, I’d like to showcase three psionics techniques your child may be learning about and what they’re used for. This is more to quickly educate you than anything else. Firstly your child has probably read about the act of shielding. The shielding ability is meant to protect them from being overwhelmed by the thoughts and emotions of others. This can keep them feeling safe in public spaces or at public social events. Another technique your child may find interest in is healing. This technique is meant to do exactly what it says, heal your child or someone of your child’s choosing. The final ability I’d like to showcase, though there are literally dozens more, is psychokinesis, simply because it is often misunderstood. This technique directly manipulates physical matter using only your child’s mind. There really isn’t a set structure for what this technique is meant to do, but you may notice your child attempting to move objects without touching them, which is an often strived-for aspect of this ability. I realize these are only three techniques that may be found in psionics, but what is important to note is that they require your child to research, practice, and responsibly utilize their own skills.
To be frank and honest, in my own opinion, psionics and psi should be every parent’s self-help guidebook for their child. To top the education benefits of psionics off, being open with your child’s progress in psionics can promote an even stronger bond with your child. Encourage your child to be diligent in their studying process, to research appropriately, practice faithfully and understand the responsible application of their hard work. Together you can turn your child’s interest in something rather benign into a bonding experience of monumental proportions. Perhaps in the end that would make psionics good for you too.
